Course Description: This course will examine biological and physical attributes if farming systems and their associated ecological and social impacts in temperate and tropical regions. It will address the ecological consequences of indigenous food and fiber production systems, conventional agricultural systems and "alternative" systems that incorporate biological pest control and natural nutrient inputs. Students will examine several case studies that integrate their understanding of concepts.

Course Requirements: There are FIVE basic requirements in the course:
1. Participation in general class discussion and answering questions posted on discussion board.
2. Completion of 5 quizzes.
3. A five page topic paper.
4. Participation in student-led discussion papers.
5. A final exam that is cumulative.

Please note: Students who experience difficulty viewing the course materials online may obtain a set of DVD lectures from the NCSU Bookstores. Media sets are loaned for the semester with a $50.00 security deposit which is refundable if it is returned on or before the date listed on the contract. If the media is not returned, the deposit is forfeited and a hold is placed on the student's account until the media is returned.
