Welcome to ARE 332, Human Resources for Agribusiness

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • State the responsibilities of a human resource manager in a small business.
  • Explain how economics applies to the labor market.
  • Describe how human resource management affects other business functions.
  • Outline the major laws affecting Human Resource Management in a small business.
  • Create a legally correct sexual harassment prevention policy.
  • Explain the procedure of an Occupational and Health Administration inspection.
  • Compare the process of obtaining migrant labor through the North Carolina Employment Security Commission and North Carolina Growers Association.
  • Write a job description and job specification for a position in a typical small business.
  • State how to properly write a company's vision, mission, goals and tactics.
  • Outline the problems a small business has attracting new team members.
  • Design a job application and write an effective job advertisement for a position.
  • Formulate a training program for a simple employee task.
  • Explain how to set up a performance management system that is ethical and legal.
  • State the various leadership methods and styles of an employer.
  • Describe methods to motivate and communicate within a small business setting.
  • Formulate compensation plans that are relevant for team members of a small business
